Bending restrictor to prevent excessive bending of pipes at the interface between flexible and rigid structures

Vertebral Bending Restrictor(VBR)
The vertebral bending  restrictor includes a number of interlocking elements that are hinged and locked together when subjected to an external load to form a smooth bend "locking" radius. Choose this radius to be equal to or greater than the minimum bend radius of the pipe to which it is applied. Once the components are locked together, the existing bending moment will be transferred to the components and returned to the adjacent rigid connection through the specially designed steel interface structure, thereby protecting the pipe/cable from potential destructive loads.
In order to prevent these pipes from excessively bending at the interface between the flexible and rigid structures, vertebral bending limiters are usually installed on the pipes. The vertebral flexure limiter is specifically used where static or quasi-static loads are applied to the pipeline, rather than dynamic loads where bending stiffeners are more suitable.
